The Roles of Curriculum Services Teams
The Copyright Team
The Copyright team reviews the course files to account for any third party material use. Subsequently, the Copyright team works to secure appropriate permissions and terms of use for these items. Legality, stability, economy, and integrity are desirable in third party materials used in Open Learning courses.
Curriculum Assistants
Curriculum Assistants send out desk copies of new textbook editions to the OLFM responsible for maintenance when Course Maintenance is initiated. Once course files are updated and returned by the OLFM to Curriculum Services, the Curriculum Assistants communicate the details of the course to various system coordinators in Open Learning so that students register for the updated course and receive the materials associated with it.
The Curriculum Assistants work closely with all of the departments including the Instructional Designers and Academic Directors. Each team member prepares and submits the appropriate forms to initiate a new course, revision or update for all OL Courses. Curriculum Assistants monitor and oversee over 100 courses within their own cluster and can have up to thirty courses active in various stages of development and update at any given time. Curriculum Assistants are exceptional at multi-tasking, organization, proficiency and attention to detail.
The Editing Team
Editors provide substantive and copy editing services to polish the writing and enhance clarity and consistency throughout the course content.
The Production Team
The Production team provides the most recent course files to be used by the OLFM for Course Maintenance. Once the files are edited, E-Learning Support Technicians prepare the updated files for publication in the learning environment or in print. This may include incorporating updated graphics and media items, too. An E-Learning Support Technician may communicate with the OLFM about how to best structure students' access to quizzes and any other unique course components. The Production Team's Exam Liaison Officer formats updated Practice and Final Exams. The OLFM may view the course in the learning environment at this phase if desired.
